An immersive virtual reality game exploring themes of skin cancer prevention and treatment.

Can you control cancer?

Designed by cancer researchers, Dr Ken Dutton-Regester (Excite Science) and Dr Elke Hacker (QUT), in partnership with Real Serious Games, we wanted to use virtual reality to teach people about cancer in a memorable and immersive way. When a metastatic skin cancer suddenly appears in the lung, it’s up to you to use chemo, targeted and immuno-therapies to kill the cancer. Will you be able to control the cancer?

Underlying Research.

MalignancyVR is not just an entertaining, educational experience; it was created with research applications in mind. In early 2020, our first research article and case study was published in JMIR Real Serious Games. We’re now seeking funding to perform a randomized clinical trial to determine if virtual reality can be a powerful tool to chance sun protection behaviour and prevent sun cancer.

Available on the Meta Quest VR headset

MalignancyVR in Schools.

Dr Ken Dutton-Regester, founder of Excite Science, hand-delivered the virtual reality headsets to each of the winning schools. In addition, Ken did a live demonstration and presentation on how and why the game was created for cancer education. Below are pictures taken at MacGregor State High School.

Excite Science can help you experience MalignancyVR in a variety of ways. This includes game rental on your Meta Quest headset, to full service delivery of a virtual reality experience at your next event. Want to know more? Send us a message using the link below.
